Experience Lory State Park by Day and Night this July

BELLVUE, CO (July 8, 2021) – During May through October, Lory State Park offers activities, program, and events for all ages and backgrounds with support from the Friends of Lory State Park (FoLSP). The scheduled activities this July allow everyone the unique opportunity to experience Lory, by day and night!

Check out the calendar listing by activity type below. All activities, programs, and events are free, but participants must have a valid park pass. Some activities have limited capacity, so be sure to call the Lory State Park Visitor Center at (970) 493-1623 to reserve your spot or email DNR_LoryInterp@state.co.us.

INDIGENOUS STORIES AROUND THE CAMPFIRE – July 9th 8:00PM Soldier Canyon Picnic Area

Join us for a night of storytelling and S’MORES around the campfire. Lory State Park was built on land belonging to the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute tribes. Learn more about their history and listen to traditional children’s stories from tribes around the United States. Meet at Soldier Canyon Picnic Area.

BAT BOX MAKING – July 10th at 4:00PM Visitor Center Patio

Come make your very own bat house with Lory State Park. Supplies will be provided but capacity is very limited, you MUST call the Visitors Center to reserve your spot. Limit one bat box per group. Meet at the Visitors Center Patio.

NIGHT HIKES – July 15th 8:30PM Well Gulch Full Moon Hike

Join us for a full moon nature hike learning about the nocturnal wildlife we see in the park. This is a moderate family friendly 1.5-mile hike with a 400ft gain of elevation. Meet at Well Gulch Trailhead.

WILDFLOWER GUIDED HIKES – July 17th and July 18th 9:30-11:00AM Well Gulch Nature Trail

Join Colorado botany expert Ted Schaaf for a guided hike along the Well Gulch Nature Trail. Water bottle and closed-toe shoes are required. Meet at the Well Gulch Trailhead.

PARK SLEEPOVER – July 23rd 5:00PM – July 24th 10:00AM

Take advantage of the rare opportunity to spend the night in the park! We will have a night full of adventures including a short, guided night hike, a movie under the stars, and campfire stories. Enjoy dinner, S’MORES, and breakfast over the campfire. An adult must accompany anyone under the age of 10. Park staff and volunteers will be available through the night. You MUST call the visitors center to register, more information will be provided upon registration. A $10 donation is highly encouraged. Meet at Timber Picnic Area.

STARRY NIGHTS – July 30th 8:30-11:00PM Soldier Canyon Picnic Area

Join Lory staff and experts from the NOCO Astronomical Society for an evening of exploring the night sky. Equipment provided by the NOCO Astronomical Society. We will also have a bonfire and S’MORES! Meet at Soldier Canyon Picnic Area.
