Lory State Park is a priceless resource for all residents and visitors to Northern Colorado. However, the programs, trails and recreation areas visitors have come to love need your help!The beauty of nature and the benefits derived from being outdoors have no dollar value, but your contribution will help ensure that our glorious Park endures into the future.
The mission of the Friends of Lory State Park is to work in partnership with the staff and management of Lory State Park to preserve, protect and promote the natural and recreational resources of the Park for present and future generations.
As an all volunteer group, we rely on volunteer hours and patron generosity to support a wide range of operational and programmed activities. Since 2011, all Colorado State Parks have been “enterprised,” which means they no longer receive General Funds (money from state income and sales taxes). Each park must function like a business to fund programs and operations, working within state budget constraints that impact even day-to-day activities of the park. Through monetary and volunteer support, Friends of Lory State Park will continue to work to keep our park open and accessible to all!
What does the Friends group do?
Every year, in all seasons, the Friends of Lory provides thousands of volunteer hours to support our Park’s forests, meadows, coves, trails and recreation areas. Friends:
- support environmental education programs for schools groups and the general public;
- volunteer as visitor center hosts, interpretive naturalists, trail workers, and assist with other special projects;
- raise money to purchase educational materials, park supplies and more;
- help with special events such as Xterra Triathlon, Black Squirrel Half Marathon, First Day Hikes, mountain biking events, Get Outdoors Colorado Day and more.
If you hike, bike, or ride Lory’s trails, enjoy watching or photographing its diverse wildlife, learn from its nature programs, and if you want to continue the environmental education programs enjoyed by hundreds of elementary school children … Please join us in supporting and investing in Lory State Park!
